If you can boot from an FC5 rescue disk and mount the filesystems you are
proving that you can run FC5 in principle, and the problem is likely to be
that you need the right boot options on the command line, or the initrd is
missing some kernel modules (Installing a later kernel might fix any
initrd problem automatically).
