Hm, I should have tested that. But at the moment I don't want to because
I would have to reinstall. Maybe I install a development shapshot of FC6
 this evening and test whether the same problem occurs there.

Does someone know from where GNOME gets the information for its drive
listing?

This is not the case here. My drives are identified by /dev/sd*.
/dev/hd* does not work.
