The Digests are harder to thread through, IMHO. Myself I know nothing
about wireless, although at some future point I will have to be a guru
on the subject. But, when Dell and Laptop hit the subject line I tend to
put it to ignore as I'm not at that timeline yet, and I have other fish
to fry that are more immediate and all consuming, <grin> selfish SOB
that I am. But, I will toss out this.

Is your pcmcia device being handled and recognized? Check this out:
http://linux.oldcrank.com/tips/wpc11/
googled on: linux pcmcia wireless dell
The 'OldCrank' has step by step instructions for RedHat 9 so it should
work just fine with Fedora. He tells how to check out that the card is
even being recognized. Good first step I would think. Then he proceeds
from there to a working wireless on a Dell using RedHat and the card
(chipset) of his choice. Nifty. Great Googley Moog! Right there in a
nutshell from a google search by a blithering idiot. <cackles> I sure
hope that works for you, or I'll really be one for having said that!

<grinning> Ric
