aaron..

the fact is, you do!!!!! have linux kernels developed by people who weren't
being paid...

the cruz of the GPL is that if you want to use work under the GPL license,
and you wnat to make the work available to the public.. then you give the
next person the rights to do the same thing you're doing.. which is why you
have to allow access to the source code at no additional charge...

but you're completely free to create your own license, and to create your
own software under that license...

the GPL is something that's actually quite unique and somewhat difficult for
some to abide by/get their hands around.. it basically lets ideas/code be
free.. at least under the license...

but i can easily create an app that uses mysql. and sell the app without
having to release my source code to the app.. if i recall, what i do have to
release is any code that directly ties into mysql. simply using mysql
doesn't in and of itself require me to need to release my code for my app...

but then you also need/should consult someone with a good understanding of
the different licensing types running around to figure out what license
would be best for your given app...

and yes.. there are some open source apps with certain licenses that are too
restrictive for alot of people to use to code/app...

have fun!!

No, but if I put serveral man months into producing a new software
product and I am not singularly wealthy I might want to feed my family
and get soem money back for selling my output . A GPL licence does not
allow me to od that.
Would we have linux kernels if there wasn't a company willing to pay
Linux kernel developers to do that job without demanding that revenue be
realized from their work.
