Livna kmod-fglrx-8.24.8-1.2.6.16_1.2096_FC5.x86_64 woes...

Hello Again All,

I've installed the the latest Kernel 2.6.16_1.2096 for my x86_64 based system that I have with my ATi X1800XL. From what I've read on bugzilla.livna.org, it looked like the problems with the x86_64 version of the 8.24.8 drive had been fixed. I installed the kmod- fglrx-8.24.8-1.2.6.16_1.2096_FC5.x86_64.rpm and xorg-x11-drv- fglrx-8.24.8-1.lvn5.x86_64.rpm via yum. After I rebooted, and went into X, the display is all garbled and useless. I have to ctrl-alt- backspace to get back to the command prompt. Is there something that I have missed? I had to remove the driver to get X working again. Has anyone else got the newest Livna packaged ATi driver to work with their X1X00 series ATi card?

Thanx...

Ok, I installed the Livna driver for my X800XL, and yes, it works great. However it is not the 8.24.8 driver. I was planning on installing FC5 on my system that has a X1800XL in it. The current 8.23.07 that Livna repackages will do me no good in this respect because only the 8.24.8 driver has X1000 support. Guess I'll just have to wait until it gets updated.

Does anyone know the average turnaround time after a newer ATi driver gets released and then Livna-fied?

Hi All,

I downloaded and installed the latest fglrx driver released yesterday [fglrx_6_8_0-8.24.8-1.i386.rpm]. It looks like the installer put all the files in locations that are out of the new normal paths for where
files are supposed to go. Has anyone gotten this new driver to work
yet? I know there is a different driver [livna] that is available, I
prefer the ATi driver.

Thanx!

I can tell you that yum or kyum will install the ati drivers from livna and they work perfectly, at least on the test system I was working with,
which was a brand new assembly right out of the boxes.

I was using kernel 2.6.16_1.2080 so I installed

 kmod-fglrx-8.23.7-4.2.6.16_1.2080_FC5.i686.rpm

With yum.

You really should be using the livna drivers anyhow, IF you are going to be using one of the default kernels and not a custom kernel. They are
already tested and generally known to work. For other reasons why I
encourage you to read
