Are you sure you did "su -". /sbin/service is the binary. Provided by
initscripts package. Hard to imagine that it isn't installed.

Yeah, im sure, but its not there... anyways, i found a work-around, by calling /etc/rc.d/init.d/messagebus start is the same as service messagebus start, and the same goes for all the services...
