I have completely uninstalled the first boot service and have not
experienced any problems.

(I have noticed that that always runs, even when it is not the first
boot after install. At least that's the case on my other FC5
machine.)
For what it's worth, I think it's only checking to see if the system has
some particular configuration files, and deciding that it's a "first
boot" if they don't exist. Then, it'll either ask you all those first
boot questions, or exit.
If you've definitely got a working system that's been booted up many
times, then you ought to be to turn off that service and perhaps speed
up booting by a small bit. I disabled it on PCs that were well past
their first boot, and haven't noticed any problems.
