well, jim, there have been a few reports at fedoraforum.org of users having this issue with notebooks, which isn't a good sign. but why don't you wait to tell us about it until tomorrow afternoon, when fc5 is officially released?

And why does he have to wait until tomorrow to discuss it? Who from Red
Hat has chimed in and said "Bad boy, you will NOt discuss then until the
announcement has been made official, until then you sit in the corner
with your mouth taped so you can't talk about it"?

Everyone quit taking this "not officially released until tomorrow" deal
when someone that got the ISO's early, has a problem or whatever and
asks a question. Either answer it, or just let them deal with it until
soemone else does.

(Not mad or whatever about this, the problem still exists whether it's
today or tomorrow, ya know?)

i understand very clearly your position, mike. however, i would like to point out that the many users on this list may be in a better position to offer support after more people (perhaps) encounter the same problem that the original poster is having.

as you may well know, if you are the only person in the world having a problem with any open source solution, it is difficult to get support. on the other hand, if it's a "known issue," the resolution comes a bit more quickly. the same holds true for proprietary solutions. ever try to call microsoft for help after you've scoured their support site with no answer and the phone tech asks if you've checked the website; cause that's what s/he's doing! *grumble*

i do suspect, though, that the issue of installing on a notebook will become more of an issue tomorrow, as 3 cases have surfaced already. maybe tomorrow, people can document the specifics of the issue including hardware, etc.

after the official release, we can also then be more assured that s/he is using a real release. it would be possible for any mirror or it's maintainer to rename the fc5-test3 releases and put them ina '5' directory just to joke around - though i'm not suggesting that is the case, but, as your footer says, it might be funny if it were so, and maybe even hilarious if it were a production system. :)

and so you know, i'm not one to wait the month after the release either. i'm already set up to download as soon as i can, so i can install fc5 on a media server which is a replacement for a dvd/dc player - plays ~200 dvds and ~10 24x7 days of music all across my lan via xine and rhythmbox to my projector. i am eager as well. i figure i'll get one more good night's sleep before i tackle that tomorrow.
