1) Poke the hole for 137/udp
2) Update your iptables conf file
3) Double check that you have a share section for the resource your are
requesting.
4) Restart the Samba server
5) Retest
6) (Just for shits and giggles) Try a longer name with only alpha
numerics.
7) Take this issue up on the Samba list (where there is lots of
expertise in dealing with whacked out antiquated versions of MS cruft).

Ok, I'm getting "access has been denied" when I do a

Here's a piece of tcpdump on the Linux machine at the time...

I looked in /var/log/messages, and I found this...

Mar 16 23:47:41 Presario-1 kernel: device eth0 entered promiscuous mode
Mar 16 23:47:58 Presario-1 samba(pam_unix)[11773]: authentication failure; logname= uid=0 euid=0 tty=samba ruser= rhost=172.17.205.80 user=jmccarty Mar 16 23:48:00 Presario-1 smbd[11773]: [2006/03/16 23:48:00, 0] auth/pampass.c:smb_pam_passcheck(810) Mar 16 23:48:00 Presario-1 smbd[11773]: smb_pam_passcheck: PAM: smb_pam_auth failed - Rejecting User jmccarty !
Mar 16 23:48:12 Presario-1 kernel: device eth0 left promiscuous mode

It looks like I need some sort of password in there...

At least I'm getting kicked off! (Of my own machine!)

This message made from 100% recycled bits.
You have found the bank of Larn.
I can explain it for you, but I can't understand it for you.
I speak only for myself, and I am unanimous in that!
