I would expect this is a hotplug issue and not a windows manager issue.

Hotplug is being discontinued for FC5. Maybe there is interaction
between whatever is going to assume the usb mounting and hotplug trying
to do the mounting. Gnome-volume-manager perhaps.
/proc/bus/usb (hotplug?) will soon be replaced with /dev/bus/usb
(whatever program assumes the action for usb mounts)
