I had sound problems with any SDL based game in FC4. What I did was edit /etc/esd.conf and changed spawn_options=-terminate -nobeeps -as 2 to spawn_options=-terminate -nobeeps -as 2 -r 44 The additional paramater changes the sample rate, and solved the problem for me. It's worth a shot.
