I tried playing wesnoth for the first time after upgrading to FC 4, and the background music is all static-y. The FC 3 version of wesnoth was ok, and other application's audio is fine.

Anyone else getting audio static in wesnoth?

You may get more help by putting "sound problems" in your subject line.
I had sound problems with any SDL based game in FC4. What I did was edit
/etc/esd.conf and changed spawn_options=-terminate -nobeeps -as 2
to

spawn_options=-terminate -nobeeps -as 2 -r 44

The additional paramater changes the sample rate, and solved the problem for
me. It's worth a shot.

Good suggestion, but it makes no difference. This is something particular to wesnoth. The background musix in supertux -- which also uses SDL -- is fine. I'm getting static only from wesnoth. I should clarify -- wesnoth's background music is audible, except that there's a brief burst of static every other second, or so.
