Clearly I'm not understanding something here. I thought that fetchmail
needed to know that my isp's mail server is pop3. I didn't think that
dovecot was involved at that stage.

The problem is that my old setup had the PopFile tagging package in the
chain, and I can't remember the order that I set those things up. I do
know that the old server uses pop3 in its fetchmailrc. I'm confused at
the moment. I need to get to grips with the order that things happen.

Because the old server had the messages in mbox format and I want the
new server to use maildir.
