Personally you would have to think of it this way, just like Windows has Terminal Server , and a Remote Desktop Client software, similarly you may want to think of FreeNX server as the Win Term Server equivalent and the NX client software as the RDP client aka Remote Desktop Client Software.

You want X, then.

On the server, configure gdm to allow XDMCP logins. See this thread for

Give the users an X server implementation for their desktops
(http://www.cygwin.com/ has a build of x.org available for windows that
works like a champ).
