you're absolutely right but u have to ask this important question to our instructors :)
in my opinion they studied on older kernels and dont have much knowledge about recent ones.
probably job scheduling or others subjects studied in operating systems course (the one i am taking) was much easier in older kernels so they dont wanna bother themselves to dig up into new kernels so as to learn new structures :p
hope that one day all educational institutions will keep up with the real world we living in :)
