Greetings, I have FC4 dual booting with Windows XP on a new machine with my old monitor. The FC4 installation from the CDs appeared to be successful. The start-up of FC4 appears normal too -- the messages resemble those which appear during the old FC3 boot with the services starting up successfully -- until, I think, just before the Fedora login screen should appear. Then a blizzard of messages zip by before I can read them until a low resolution graphics screen appears with the option: "I cannot start the X server. It is likely that it is not set up correctly. Would you like to view the X server output to diagnose the problem?" Replying "yes" gives some sort of log that's not immediately revealing to me -- again, too much information! Replying "no" brings up a similar low-resolution screen that asks me if I want to set the X windows display. Replying "yes" to that brings up a familiar-looking screen resolution widget. When I set the screen resolution to 1280 X 1024 (which works fine on this monitor for Windows XP now and did work on the old box/monitor combination running FC3) the screen goes blank and the system appears to hang. But after I hit enter a few times the login screen appears normally. FC4 seems to be running OK and I have "save system setup" activated but I'm still having to go through this routine whenever I boot. Something must be set wrong, somewhere.... OK, it probably has something to do with the way X windows is interacting with the graphics and monitor. Any suggestions as to how to proceed -- or where to look for clues and what to look for -- would be most appreciated. Jerry
