I used dialup (which was in RH7/8 era), kppp did the job quite nicely, though
I cannot remember if it allowed me to change the port the modem was on.

Suggestion : symlink /dev/ttyS4 to /dev/ttyS0 (possibly not the best idea in
the world though...)

I am using the Fedora Core3 dialup application:system settings/Network/Network Configuration/Devices tab/Hardware tab/Modem device

What kind of modem did you use?

How do I find KPPP?

I was able to use KPPP in Darn Small Linux, bot don't see it in Fedora Core 3
