No need to reboot. Just type the following as root '/etc/init.d/network restart'

Try doing things the good old manual way by editing:
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth1
...
because ifcfg-eth1 is a script, I can just run the script everytime I make changes? there's no need to reboot? I'm a bit concerned about mucking up the boot process and getting deeper into "it".
thanks,
