Hallo!

I am running fc3 server. I have installed the server on a maxtor ata drive, and everything works just fine with this. I am running out of space however, and want to add a sata drive.

When I reboot after having connected the sata drive the server no longer boots, and shows the following message: Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!

Does anyone know what is going wrong here? Are there howtos on this problem?

Adding the SATA drive may have caused your BIOS to "renumber" its drives, so the SATA drive is now the "first" hard disk, where originally it was your regular ATA drive. So grub can't find the kernel to boot, because it's no longer on the "first" drive (in fact the BIOS probably can't even find grub)?

If your BIOS can change the drive order so that SATA drives come *after* ATA drives, it'll probably boot again.

Otherwise you'll probably need to boot from the rescue CD and reinstall grub.

Paul.
