I don't know if this is related or not, but once in a while kudzu messes
me up.  Can you try disabling kudzu and then rebooting (do a hard power
off) and see if the card simply starts working?

To disable kudzu (chkconfig kudzu off).  At times kudzu, when polling
hardware leaves that hardware in an unsteady state, and I believe this
happened to me on those RealTek chipsets at one point in time....
