Tried that but still get this error:

[root@terrabyte ~]# hdparm -d1 -X66 /dev/hda
 
/dev/hda:
 setting using_dma to 1 (on)
 HDIO_SET_DMA failed: Operation not permitted
 setting xfermode to 66 (UltraDMA mode2)
 using_dma    =  0 (off)

If this worked I would put this in the /etc/rc.local file which gets run
at startup.

Thanks for the pointer on this bug report.  Sad part is that I had done
some searches on this before building the system and had not come across
it.  I initially thought it might be something with using KDE but the
same problem occurs using Gnome.
