Now im really confused... I thought that the guest account was supposed to exist in /etc/passwd? I've obviously got the wrong end of the stick from the docs I've read. So what should guest account be? If its not meant to be in /etc/passwd or smbpasswd, should it just be a random name? (If so, I tried that - and I still got challenged for a user name / password...?) -----Original Message----- From: Alexander Apprich [mailto:a.apprich@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: 01 March 2005 14:19 To: For users of Fedora Core releases Subject: Re: Browse Samba server from XP Dave, Irving, Dave wrote: > I added the following to [publicShare] > > guest ok = true > guest account = nobody > guest only = true > > I then restarted samba. > However, Im still getting challenged for a user name / password when > trying to connect? > Is there something else I need to do? > Yep, do not use nobody, because nobody probably exists in your /etc/passwd.
