Add to that tripwire and you have a fairly decent IDT for the system.

I think it is the sysadmin background.  I suspect most people don't run
these programs.

That would be in the bag of tricks to use in trying to take over a
system.  Of course if sudo is properly set up the damage should be
contained still.  But I have seen people open sudo up for everything.
