Gérard, Using the current CVS snapshot of Emacs fixes the meta key problem with the new xorg-X11 release for me, too. Incidentally, when compiling Emacs, I used the gtk x-toolkit option, instead of the default Xaw3d option the Fedora Emacs package uses. I don't know why Fedora doesn't use the gtk option, given that gtk2 is more or less standard on Red Hat systems, and it looks better than Xaw3d.
