First you might peek at the stock srpm to see if it already includes
the fix you need.  RedHat/fedora sometimes back bugfixes into earlier
versions without bumping the version numbers.  Then if you still need
the newer version, just build the tarball in /usr/local/bin (the usual
default) and it won't interfere with rpm dependencies.
