Interestingly I was just about to do that when I realised that I have the same problem on the console. So it isn't a GNOME Terminal problem. I've just now opened an xterm and a konsole and I have exactly the same problem in them too -- root and other users do not. My next thought was that it must be something in my .bashrc or in my .bash_profile but they are pretty vanilla. What other files should I look at?
