Interesting. Mine isn't. Appended is what it looks like (I shrunk my terminal
window down so I could copy without linewrap--don't know if the 'line'
characters will come through). And I would PREFER a tool that's integrated
with my desktop, that nicely tucks away into the taskbar, that I can call up
to change the volume with a single click, instead of a text-mode program I
have to open a terminal window and use the keyboard to control. Persnickety
of me, I know.

Incidentally, playing around with it and Kmix I discovered that the two
controls labelled Master do nothing, but the one labeled Headphone controls
the volume. And yes, I checked the rear of the computer--it's not plugged
into the headphone jack (I don't have one). So ... how do I (a) either
convince ALSA/kmix that the master control should (duh) control the volume,
or (b) tell Kmix to display the headphone slider when I click on the taskbar
icon, instead of the master slider?
