Why do I need NetworkManager?

Description: "NetworkManager is a network link manager that attempts to keep a
wired or wireless network connection active at all times."

I only have a single wired connection, which isn't prone to going down, and
there's nothing NetworkManager could do if it did. So why should I keep it
around?
