There are many repositories of RPM-packaged programs that RH/fedora chose (for various reasons) not to include. The best way to obtain them is to pick one that supports the yum and/or apt tools that handle rpm dependencies for you. See http://rpm.livna.org/index.html or http://freshrpms.net/ Note that it is pretty safe to add one extra repository to your apt or yum configuration and continue to let them update everything.
