Not always.  Many network printers have a screen to let you set ip, etc.,
but some don't.  Then, there are 2 possibilities:

1. you have to use the utility coming with the printer to do the initial
setup: ip, gateway, etc.
2. the printer uses dhcp.  Then, you need to run something (coming with
the printer) to "find" that printer and use it.

I have been used both cases for several different printers, but those
utilities coming with the printers are all for windows, not for linux.
