I've had no problems with Azureus in FC2, FC3, Rawhide using either of
the 2 most recent java's. I put Azureus and java in /usr, started
Azureus, which found the Java itself, then opened the specified port
(6881?) then specified a .torrent in firefox and told it to always use
Azureus - no problems.

I did receive an update within the last month, but the help screen says
I'm using V 2.2.0.0

If I execute azureus I get the following output:

]# /usr/azureus/azureus
Starting Azureus...
Java exec not found in PATH, starting auto-search...

Loading Azureus:
/usr/java/jre1.5.0/bin/java -cp :Azureus2.jar:swt.jar:swt-
