I am wanting to upgrade, but I an afraid with FC2 in the middle
that might not be a good idea.
Would I be better off backing up everything and doing a fresh install?

thanks

Hi Don,

I did an upgrade on my notebook (Scenic Mobile 710) from FC1 to FC3. I had to change the yum conf files since they have a new structure now. My soundchip didnt work anymore, and the program that i used to configure it because its and old non pnp soundchip isnt supported anymore (sndconfig). So i got errors from my modules conf resulting in a non working soundchip. Thats because the is no module for my soundchip to be run on the 2.6 kernel series. At least, i couldnt find one. The Touchpad was reidentified at startup by kudzu, and and now it also doesnt work well because it seems to use a new driver. In the Past, i used to make backups from my FC1 / partitioon (ext3) by booting into windows and using DriveImage 2002 (its fast, easy and generates good compresseion). After upgrade to FC3, DriveImage 2002 as well as PartitionMagic8 doesnt recognize the ext3 / partition any more. I reloaded a FC1 Backup, and DriveImage is happy again. I tried that on anohter machine, same issue, no DriveImageing after upgrade to FC3 on ext3 (the partition type didnt change!). I had to reinstall some broken unofficial packages, but that was to expect. I found it most frustrating that my soundchip (ess1878) doesnt work with fc3 while it does fine on fc1, and worse, that there is no proggie for legacy soundcards like sndconfig anymore. Now im back to FC1.

Greetings,
Thomas
