xterm color (defaults to light background, dark foreground): /etc/DIR_COLORS.xterm console color (defaults to dark background, light foreground): /etc/DIR_COLORS To have the same colors in gnome-terminal simply copy /etc/DIR_COLORS to ~/.dir_colors You can also copy DIR_COLORS to ~/.dir_colors.xterm or any other valid value of $TERM. (e.g. FC3 I think uses a "gnome" terminal type for gnome-terminal.)
