I think you may be right.

Here (http://www.mutt.org/links.html#other) is a link which says for
POP3 mail retrival u hav to use fetchmail or getmail.  Here
(http://groups.yahoo.com/group/mutt-users/message/49395) is a another
link which i got by following links from mutt.org which recommends
fetchmail for use with mutt.

 Sorry, it was my mistake. I should have clicked reply-to-all instead
of reply button.
