I am having the same problem on my second hard drive. I've got a
AthlonMP dual processor system. It worked fine with RedHat 7.3 and
RedHat 9, and it works fine on Knoppix. But with Fedora Core 3 or
Knoppix booted with the 2.6 kernel ("knoppix26" at the boot prompt), I
get dma_timer_expiry and ide bus resets all over the place. If I keep
the drive off, everything works fine.

I've filed https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=140864
