With regards to Newbies IMHO this is a better option than yum due to that dreaded word GUI with Synaptic you can see everything available at a glance, use it to un-install things and it sorts out the dependencies it will also select additional packages for install if required so if a novice selects something and doesn't realise another bit is needed they wont get in a mess. As others have said yumi doesn't work (at the moment) apt offered to install it and it is installed but it cries about cannot import client something or other. -- Regards Peter Cannon
