I thank all the people who gave me squirrelmail help. I have gotten it working on our actual mail server but am having trouble with my own machine. First someone challenged my statement that the Installation instructions are inadequate. Let me illustrate using the rpm installation; The statement is made that a data directory is created in the squirrelmail directory. Well it is not. Then the attachments directory is identified as /var/some/place/directory. Then it is identified as /var/attachments/SomeDirectory. This is very obscure. Does the name matter. Is the directory named attachments important. Finally we are told to point our browser to http://www.yourdomain.com/squirrelmail when actually the Alias in the /etc/httpd/conf/squirrelmail.conf identifies the directory as webmail. Now these are just examples of the inadequacy of the instructions. Put we are passed that hopefully. On my desk machine I am running dovecot which is not one of the specifically supported IMAP servers. I go to myhost.edu/webmail, and I am prompted to logon. The I get an error: Connection Dropped by imapserver Query: CAPABILITY Does anyone know what that means and how to fix it? -- The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy has a few things to say on the subject of towels. Most importantly, a towel has immense psychological value. For some reason, if a non-hitchhiker discovers that a hitchhiker has his towel with him, he will automatically assume that he is also in possession of a toothbrush, washcloth, flask, gnat spray, space suit, etc., etc. Furthermore, the non-hitchhiker will then happily lend the hitchhiker any of these or a dozen other items that he may have "lost". After all, any man who can hitch the length and breadth of the Galaxy, struggle against terrible odds, win through and still know where his towel is, is clearly a man to be reckoned with. -- Douglas Adams, "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy"
