Stupid question, probably, but your CD-Rs are rated for 28x, aren't they? I understand that the blank can indicate to the drive and the software how fast it's happy to go. Then the software can use that as a maximum so you don't waste CDs. Many cheap CDs don't support high burn rates, yet don't call attention to the fact.
