Not really a followup, but a related question. I got a very cheap (1 euro) USB 2.5 inch hard disk holder to test a laptop hard disk which may be dead. In any case, when I plugged the disk-holder into my desktop the green light came on the holder - indicating I assume that the computer was trying to read the disk - but the desktop just hung. As a matter of interest, where would the disk appear if this had worked? Does it emulate a SCSI drive, and if so do I need anything in the kernel beyond the USB mass storage option? When I tried this under Windows, the green light came on for a second and then turned red, which I assume meant that the disk could not be read. -- Timothy Murphy e-mail (<80k only): tim /at/ birdsnest.maths.tcd.ie tel: +353-86-2336090, +353-1-2842366 s-mail: School of Mathematics, Trinity College, Dublin 2, Ireland
