Funny ncurses behaviour

Hi All !

Having just upgraded a slew of customer machines from RH9 to FC2 and
switched their primary functions from Linux consoles to X-terminals,
the ncurses behaviour seems to be broken.

Basically, the programs all use ncurses and still work perfectly on
a text console, but some of the keys appear to lose their binding when
run in an xterm. Why should this be ?

For example, the Enter key in the bottom RH corner of the keyboard should
always return the value 0x0a, but in an xterm sends ESC-O-M. This is less
than satisfactory - but I can't find any combination of keypad(stdscr, 0|1)
and Num-Lock on/off that gets me a consistent set key mapping for the
numeric keypad and the normal arrow/home-end/Pg-Up-Down keys.
