I get such dual system on my Dell Dimension 4300. I
initially had WinXp and RH9.0. Here are a few my
hints:

I did not touch the winxp part and get a fresh
installation of Fedora Core 2. Upgrade installation
did not work well with XKB (??) or X screen
configuration.

I formated the LiNUX partitions, BUT DO NOT FORMAT the
boot partition

The system works well.
