Did you check CMOS setup on the section like 'protect boot
sector for boot Virus'?
If the boot sector of your system was protected by CMOS, then
disable that option in CMOS setup and reinstall grub on MBR section of your
HDD.
For reinstallation, you can enter existing Linux system with
install cd(1st cd) and just type 'grub' on the terminal as root.
NOTES) If you didn't install the Linux system on '1st
master drive(/dev/hda)', I recommend to refer man page of grub for
reinstallation.
