What's unfortunate about that? 3rd gen stuff work just as well (as do
2nd and 1st gen). It just so happens they come w/Firewire cables. 4th
gen and iPod Minis iirc, are USB only by default

Yes, get the latest kernel (yum update), and it'll work. It works here
:)

If its HFS+ formatted (by default), you'll also want to make sure you
get hfsutils*.rpm installed (just yum search hfsutils and do the
installs)
