There is one difference that I value.  up2date will also download the
source rpm if that option is turned on.  Last I checked yum does not yet
have this option but an enhancement request has been made.

Since up2date and yum can fetch packages from a yum repository you can
cross expose your download caches as a yum resources via html or NFS.
You can also use rsync or just scp if you have the disk space.
There have been a number of postings on how to setup a yum repository.
Google should find them for you.
