A nice feature of X in FC is that it disables itself for 5 minutes if it
fails to start a few times. If there's a problem with the drivers, you'll
initially get a flashing login prompt that seems quite alarming - it's
impossible to do anything. But after about 10 attempts an ncurses-style
message appears and after that X is disabled.
