I was successful getting this to work this weekend. For Nautilus to ask
for username and password, you must do in Nuatilus:

File-->Connect to Server...

in the location type smb://name_of_computer/name_of_share

I do not know why Nautilus will not display the list of network shares
in the browser. Hopefully this will give you a fix that you can use in
the meantime.
