Ok I installed the rpm of mplayer via yum. watched a flick. Went to bed. I powercycled the next afternoon. when the system rebooted I had no sound.
I have ob sound (via chipset) and a soundblaster live! card.
the soundblaster card dosent play anymore.
Its not an alsamixer problem I cant even get alsa to asknowledge the card. I tried -c0 -c1 -c2 .... no dice I get this error message
"alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for hw:1: No such device"
so I dropped to etc, and noticed that I have TWO modprobe.conf files the normal one and then modprobe.conf~
Some setting changed it had to be when I installed mplayer (which is unstable) because I hadn't done anything.
I have sound with the via card, FC2 defaults to it and alsa sees it etc etc. But the SB card worked fine on fc2 until now. I am a little confused on modprobe.conf.

I swapped them renamed them tried commenting out lines. I am lost.
does anyone have any insight that the would be willing to share.
