It would appear that on May 2, David Collantes did say: > On 5/2/2004 8:28 AM, Alexander Dalloz wrote: > > > Someone subscribed who uses a CR mail system - CR means challenge > > response. But I dislike both what I've seen of the CR systems and I've been stung by server black list systems before. Actually if {read that *_IF_*} CR systems are smart enough to not let their luser customers dump on mailing lists by mistake by automatically detecting mailing lists and simply NOT send any challenges to it. so that the luser has to personally whitelist it if he/she wants to get the list's messages then I'd actually *LIKE* them. But as long as they need their user to be smart enough to properly configure them to prevent this, then I think that "crap" was an appropriate description... I just wish the alternative methods didn't step on the little non-offender who happens to use the wrong service provider or have a mail configuration that happens to fit a spammer profile. I used to like my free mail15 account because it was free, used imap, and didn't make me transmit my mail password in clear text... But probably because it was free, way to many spammer were using it or something... Currently some spam filters think I'm a spam relay because my From: address points to my old memorable ttlc.net mailbox (I don't like asking people to update their address books...) All of which is forwarded to my more broadband mailbox. Which server I actually send my mail with... So again, If the CR system is well enough designed to prevent user misconfiguration from pestering mailing list contributors I'd say it could be a great thing. But ANY such system that NEEDS it's user to know what he/she is doing to prevent this... *IS* crap! -- | --- --- | Joe (theWordy) Philbrook <o> <o> | J(tWdy)P ^ | <<jtwdyp@xxxxxxxx>> /---\ "bla bla bla..." | \___/ "...and bla..." But if I actually knew everything, then I'd know I was an idiot...
