vsftpd ~ftp/pub permission woes for uploads

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]

Hi all,

I've setup an FTP (vsftpd) server and was testing an upload (put) to the
~ftp/pub (/var/ftp/pub) directory as a "real" user. Now, with the
standard permissions on this dir, the upload fails with a "553 can't
create file". This is obviously because it's set to 755 which disallows
write access to the group and other categories. Setting it to 757 will
allow me to upload but this is not ideal from a security standpoint. The
directory is owned by user/group root (and the user account is obviously
not root or a part of the root group). How can I allow real user
accounts upload ability? "write_enable" is set in the vsftpd.conf file
and I can't see any other relevant setting to allow this for real user
accounts. (there's a "anon_upload_enable" directive for anonymous users,
but that's not relevant for real users..)

Thanks for any help.

Regards,
-Matt
