One Idea, heat problem.
Inspect the inside for dust and crud in heat sinks.
Inspect and verify that all the fans are spinning.

My last 'annoying' problem was a hairball in the heat sink under a
small fan. (my box was vintage Pentium II - 266; Matrox Millenium
too).

In my case a small fan was mounted on top of a heat sink blowing down
into the fingers of the heat sink. Over time dust built up under the
fan where it was invisible on a quick inspection.
